Sydney Freedivers, Australia's first fully insured Freediving Club opened its doors for membership in the later part of 2007.

Sponsored into existance by North Shore Underwater Club and supported by some of the old freedivers from the area this club is "Freediving" only.

Meetings: Every 2nd Wednesday of the month the club meets to coordinate its activities. At these meetings you will regularly get:
          - A training session on diver safety, freediving technique, equipment training, and even fitness and strength coaching for diving.
          - demonstrations of diving equipment
          - a report on the clubs training achievenments over the last month. Last month there were over 6 new PBs set.
          - videos of dives or training
          - Dynamic and static max nights announcements

Weekly Training: So far the club members are training 3 nights a week at different venues around Sydney. At training you will be shown the pools safety protocol and coached on how to handle all situations.  You will introduced to training methods and coached on your technique.

Future events: This summer there will be freediving trips to dive on various wrecks around Sydney. There will also be dives for the less experienced introducing them to diving deeper. There are competitions planned including ones with official AIDA judges where all divers will get a world and Australian ranking.

Here are some pics from a recent training night:

It was a fun night training...

That only became more fun:

Judge
I'm not a freediver but logged onto the AFC website in the hope of tracking down a guy called Brenton Osborn who I understand does a bit of freediving in Sydney.  He also runs a business of finding lost valuables at the beach or in the surf - hence my interest!  Would you or any of your colleagues have any idea how I might get in touch with him or put him in touch with me?
Many thanks.

Hello Judge,

I've been looking for a freediving course / training / club for a few weeks in Sydney. I've been training alone thus far, for a lack of someone else interested (which is very risky, if not stupid). I'd be quite keen on joining you guys for a training night if it's not too late to join! When/where's your next one?

Cheers,
Tony

Hi Tony,

We train 3 nights a week in different locations, some north side of the bridge and others south side. The best night to come along first time is on a Monday.  What area do you live in?  I will PM you some details and phone numbers.

Cheers,

Judge

Hi Judge,

My name is Saul, i'm an avid spearfisherman / diver on the Lower North Shore.
I'm interested in some freedive training / coaching in order to increase my dive depth and bottom time.
I was hoping you might be able to send through some information about the club, (meeting times / places / membership etc )
any info would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Saul.

Hi,

My name is Olenka. I am over in Syndey (mainly) from London for about 3 weeks on the 22nd Feb. I have done some freediving training in the past, but not for a couple of months as my club kind of fizzled out.
I was up to 4 mins static and over 50 metres no fins dynamic. I would love to work on depth... and also in open water which, as you can imagine, is pretty hard in London!

Maybe i can join in a training session or a sea dive when i am out there? Will get cracking on some tables so not to embarass myself completely! I have no idea where i am going to be in Sydney- I am staying with a friend who i gether lives 15 mins away from the airport???!

Thanks
Olenka

hi Judge,
I would like to get some more information about the membership in your club. I'm also interested to find out if you're organizing weekend freediving courses - especially in February.
Me and my bf live in Manly. We have done our first course in Thailand in 2004 and since than we have been freediving occasionally during holidays.

Thanks for info,
Ivana

Hi Ivana & Olenka,
This forum is a bit quiet at the moment, might be better of contacting Judge or other Syd divers on here :-

Hi Olenka,

I recently got back to Australia from 3 years in London, I used to train with the Richmond, Crystal Palace and occasionally Kentish Town and No Tanx clubs. I'm also still on the committee of the British Freediving Association so if you need a hand finding a club back in London please let me know and i'll let you know where your nearest club is.

Cheers,
Ben Noble
